The gun permit application is available online through the Indiana State Police website. CLICK on the button below to obtain and submit the gun permit application. Once the application has been submitted, the applicant needs to schedule an appointment at a location that does electronic fingerprinting. After completing the electronic fingerprints, applicants need to have a background check completed by the appropriate local law enforcement department.
Middlebury residents within the town limits with 3 or 4 digits before the street address will report to the Middlebury Police Department. Middlebury residents outside of town limits with 5 digits before the street address will report to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.
Middlebury Police Department provides house checks for residents who live within the town limits and will be going out of town on vacation or for an extended time period. CLICK the button below for the form, complete and sign. Then submit to middleburypd@middleburypolice.com.
Vehicles that are bought out of state and properly plated (temp tag) can be brought to the Middlebury Police Department to have a vin check done. If vehicle can not be brought to the police department, we can go the resident’s house if you live in the town limits of Middlebury. If you live in the county, you will have to have the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office do the vin check. Our fee for a vin check is $5.00.
